Our Art Auction Was a Success — Thank You, Victoria!
On December 7th, our community came together for the Gleams of Hope Silent Art Auction at St. Philip Anglican Church, and thanks to the generosity of so many, we are thrilled to share that we surpassed our sponsorship fundraising goal, reaching a total of $53,000 to support the resettlement of R. and her two daughters in Canada.
This extraordinary achievement reflects the heart of Victoria. More than 40 local artists donated work, volunteers poured countless hours into organizing and hosting the event, and community members showed up with open hearts — bidding, sharing, and spreading the word.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to:
• The artists who donated 58 beautiful works of art
• Our volunteers who made the event run seamlessly
• Everyone who attended, bid, donated, and encouraged us along the way
• Victoria News and Capital Daily for their thoughtful coverage and for helping amplify R.’s story
• Our anonymous donor who generously matched up to $5,000 in art sales
Reaching our sponsorship target means R.’s family will soon be able to begin their new life in safety here on Vancouver Island. A home in Central Saanich is already prepared, and we are awaiting the final steps of the ICA’s sponsorship process.
We Still Need Your Help: Donations for R.’s Medical Treatment
While our resettlement goal has been met, R. continues to face significant medical expenses related to her recent late-stage breast cancer diagnosis. These costs are not covered by our sponsorship funds, and additional support is still urgently needed.
To make contributing easier for the community, we have now enabled direct e-transfer donations to our not-for-profit account.

With Gratitude
At a time when the world can feel painfully divided, the success of this fundraiser shows what is possible when neighbours — from all backgrounds, traditions, and walks of life — come together with compassion and purpose.
Thank you for helping us bring real hope, safety, and dignity to R. and her daughters.
We are deeply grateful for your continued support.

“Gleams of Hope” Art Auction Fundraiser
Sponsoring a Syrian-Palestinian Refugee Family
Sunday, December 7th, 2025 at 2 pm
St. Philip Anglican Church
Born from a circle of Muslims, Jews, Christians and unaffiliated people seeking dialogue during the war in Gaza, Gleams of Hope has become a shared effort to bring R., a Palestinian-Syrian widow, and her two teenage daughters to safety in Canada. The sponsorship group has already raised over $40,000 toward their resettlement, but needs $10,000 more to meet the government’s sponsorship requirement.
To help reach this goal, St. Philip Anglican Church will host the Gleams of Hope Silent Art Auction Fundraiser on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 2 p.m. Join us for an afternoon of art, community, and compassion. Proceeds from the auction and associated donations will directly support the family’s sponsorship costs as well as help with R's medical costs.
R.’s story is one of resilience amid loss and displacement. Living in hiding since 2017 and now undergoing cancer treatment, she continues to dream of a safe home and a future where her daughters can pursue their education free from fear.
Your support, through bidding, donating, or spreading the word, can help make that dream a reality.
